Ima Robot’s first album has been described as The Cars on speed.   ‘Crazy Los Angeles electronica new wave rap manic pop punk’ is also a good description.   It was one of those albums in which every song was good, some great.  The second album is less balanced - the first few songs are phenomenal, and the rest is just pretty good.  The focus here is on their best track, Creeps Me Out.  I think they actually surpassed any song on the previous album with this song.  Its one of those songs which is so catchy, you cant stop playing it over and over and over for days on end.  Its a fun pop song that breaks for an alternative chorus about 2/3 of the way through, which really kicks it through the roof - all spun with honesty and humor (its the singer’s true account of a girl who just loves him waaaaay too much).  The video of it on Youtube adds a strange musical chairs angle to the fun.

Some songs are so sad, so good, that they actually wind up making you feel happy.  The subject matter of the song may not be something specific that has happened to you, but its the mood of the song.  This song to me seems to be about someone who has gone through some sort of extreme trial and, upon survival and contemplation, has changed everything to a positive note.

The ending of the song - on such a high note - musically as well as lyrically - makes me almost want it played at my funeral when the time comes.  Chris’s email today mentioned being ready for our death, whether it be by piano or whatnot, but anyway it reminded me of this song - actually I would like this song playing for me during the moment of death.  Oh - and Chris - just before that piano drops on you, I’m going to slap you in the face with a dead fish for payback.
